Maliyah’s Tribute

In loving memory of my Aunty Stevey. This lady took me home from the hospital when I was born, was my neighbor for 15+ years of my life in Bequia. I was at her house all the time. I ate lunch with her at her shop most days in primary school. Any time she pulled out of her driveway I’d be in my porch to wave to her or see if she’d call me down to go wherever she was going with her. When I moved closer to where she lived in Florida I would drive down and spend days upon days at her house as she had given me my own room and key. Any time I felt like coming I’d just pop up and surprise her. We used to watch movies, order food and just laugh and talk until she threw me out of her room so she could go to sleep. Her antics were crude at times but that was definitely a part of her charm, I was guaranteed a few cackles every time we hung out. We had our little ups and downs but in the end I always found myself back down at her place. I can’t begin to describe the pain her illness and now passing has caused me. I was there with her right to the end as I watched her take her last breath and I’m thankful that she was surrounded by those who loved her. I can say with confidence that anyone who has ever met her will remember her forever, as will I. RIP Aunty Stevey ❤️🥺
